Welcome to the angling apprentice.
A
light hearted and informative series of articles about an angler
learning the ropes.
Throughout ones angling life you will encounter many different anglers
all with their own particular style and level of angling ability, it is
here that the story begins, as like many sports or general pastimes you
will find those that tend to go a little further than "just a hobby" ,
you will also encounter people that share the same common ground or
sense of humour when it comes to something that you both enjoy, I met
Keith Hampton and immediately new that he was such a person, from the
first encounter at a well known trio of estate lakes where he is
affectionately known as "The Cod Father" because of his infinite
ability to catch a shed full of Bream, I could see that we were going to
get along famously.
I
believe that Keith will tell you himself that his angling knowledge is
limited but he is an excellent pupil and shows a natural ability
for catching fish and enthusiastic approach to learning about anything
that will enhance his catching and general angling ability, we have not
stopped sharing angling tales and laughing loudly since.
Keith is a typical Derbyshire bloke with a coal pit
working background whom has gone fishing from an early age learning some
things along the way, here are some of his well known fraises to give
you a general feel for his character, He calls everyone
"youth" even if you are his senior,
when faced with a situation that he cannot overcome by himself he
exclaims "I am not trained up on that bit yet youth" but if he gets something correct he
then says "I am trained up on that bit youth" ?.
It
was Keith that first mentioned that perhaps we should place some of his
angling experiences whilst learning the trade upon this website so that
other anglers could identify and solve some of the problems that they
have experienced in the past, I thought it to be an excellent idea and
one which would give other anglers the best of both worlds, on the one
hand identifying with some problems that they have found
throughout their own angling and on the other being able to learn some
of the answers to these problems as Keith would probably come across
them in the future whilst leaning the ways of angling.
Hopefully this part of the site will grow on a regular basis as we go
fishing at least once a week, I will try to include as much information
as I can writing up the articles and posting them for you to read, we
intend to go fishing in the new season for Roach, Tench, Barbel, Rudd,
Chub, Carp and Bream covering most of the tackle and techniques that go
with these different species of fish on Rivers, Canals and still waters
around this area and of course on our club waters.
I
have left room for all of the article subject links below so that I can
place them on a full page with pictures where necessary, for information
on some of the tackle that we have used or new tackle reviews visit
the tackle reviews section.
