The Scunthorpe Police Angling Club was formed over thirty years ago predominantly from serving and ex police officers with their family's as part of the then sports and social section within the Humberside Police force, these police officers friends and family acquired the now main club lake just outside the village of Flixborough on a yearly lease from Sir Reginald Sheffield this being part of his Normanby park estate, the lake was originally formed from excavation work carried out by the local ore mining section of the then British steel Company B.S.C for its seam of iron ore, after work had finished it was abandoned and took on the role of irrigation to the adjacent farming land used by the farmer today for such purposes causing a level instability throughout a particularly hot summer, the sports and social section has now long gone and the lake has been passed over to a more general group of anglers from all over the area yet it still remains under the name Police Angling Club and boasts many of it's original members, the lake has undergone many changes over the years but remains a first class fishery with a good head of mixed species with new fish being introduced as part of the ongoing fishery management program. The club has grown under the supervision and hard work of many anglers within it and is today a first class old school angling club much like the older clubs that have disappeared throughout the past years, it has a healthy member database and now boasts many excellent waters on which to fish which are all very different and hold their own particular challenges, these being, Flixborough, Medge Hall, Lady Pit Farm on the River Trent and the Warping Drain all having their individual stocking and fishery management agendas, if you are new to the area or visit on a regular basis and wish to find a club that contains like minded people whom will help and advise where they can and also want some terrific fishing then join the Scunthorpe Police Angling Club as it's members will welcome you, the club also caters for younger members, organising adult and junior matches throughout the year.

We try hard to adopt a healthy angling environment for all anglers within the club helping and advising on differing angling skills, the environment and countryside, we believe that all anglers should protect the countryside and all animals that live within it, we have some hard and fast rules for anglers that wish to litter or damage the areas in which we spend our time enjoying this sport, if you are caught you will be banned for life and we will make sure that all other anglers and associated clubs find out as we will not tolerate such behaviour and wanton destruction of our beautiful countryside
We aim to encourage the education of younger anglers in good angling practices and the effects of all people whom use the countryside, we maintain a safety first campaign and try to ensure the correct laws and practices are adhered to, we are all keen conservationists and believe that the work that we do now to help our natural environment will not only help us but help the future generations to enjoy this great sport of ours.

Please adhere to all local fishery rules when fishing, carry your club membership card at all times, please be aware that whilst visiting these fisheries, fishing at any other club water, or wearing the club clothing you are an ambassador for the club and the rest of it's members please be a kind, considerate angler and help others to learn about safe angling practice and the conservation of the countryside.

There may be waters that have just been acquired or block bookings for still waters in and around this area, please make sure that you check this website on a regular basis for updates, all new waters can be found in the club waters section and will be announced on the home page as well for the first few months.

The club have in place a safety first campaign to teach young or inexperienced anglers how to safeguard themselves from dangers beside the water, you can download or print from this site a safety information leaflet from the safety first campaign section.

Keen on environmental issues.

This club is very keen to attract the correct sort of angler or to educate anglers in general about environmental issues and the preservation of our wildlife and countryside please visit the conservation section to learn more.

Litter Louts.

Unfortunately this country has a very backward approach to our litter problem and to the general litter bred culture which starts from a very early age, I find it astounding that an individual can dump a huge pile of rubbish in the countryside and not give it a second thought but surly this non caring attitude starts at an early age with the individual not feeling responsible for dropping litter elsewhere, The Scunthorpe Police Angling Club try to make a difference to this litter culture by imposing a strict ruling to those uncaring individuals whom wish to leave their litter on the bank side, which is if you are found to be littering you will lose your permit, we understand that this will not necessarily change some individuals littering habits but it will at least stop them from littering on our club waterways and may condition them into being a more caring angler and general individual, we realise that the litter culture of this country will be very hard to change but if every individual try's to make a difference then maybe one day we will find the solution.

The wildlife that lives within the countryside does not need any special attention to sustain it's life as it has done well for hundreds of years on it's own, nor will it need any intervention from the angler in general but it is your duty to safeguard the wellbeing of all animals and wildlife that live in, upon or beside the water, you can make sure that you do your bit by following the simple guidelines that you will find at the bottom of the club rules section.

The Scunthorpe Police Angling Club welcomes all new members and tries to maintain a healthy angling environment for all

We work hard to maintain all waters under our control for the benefit of all members including the disabled providing access and parking close to the waters edge
