Hold the Barbel head first into the flow until it
begins to swim from your grasp with vigour, this can
take several minutes so be patient
Never attempt to keep Barbel in a keep net for long
periods !
Always peg your net upstream so that any fish can
enter your net and sit in the flow without the need
to turn around , Always try to release Barbel and
other big fish shortly after capture !

Tips for a fish friendly season.
When you are allowed to use a keep net remember ! do not keep fish for long
periods, release your fish after a short time especially in hot
weather or shallow water,
DO NOT
tip your fish down the net upon release, swim them down in the water
and out through the neck to allow safe passage and minimal damage to
scales which can cause infection.
If you photograph your catch do it on a soft piece of ground, do not
tip your fish onto concrete or sharp objects, for large catch shots
use a suitable mat a large piece of polythene, pond liner is ideal
moistened with water before you start, stay out of direct sunlight
and do it as fast as possible to minimise fish distress, return the
fish carefully as soon as possible.
These rules are for your benefit, fish conservation and other
anglers, please adhere to them at all times.
Simple guidelines to help the environment and wildlife.
You do not have to do much to safeguard the countryside and wildlife
in general, it will take very little input from you to make a big
difference overall as long as you are aware that you are fishing in
an an environment that demands your respect and awareness.
The best thing that you could do for the environment is leave it
alone !, be vigilant to pollution and the natural habitat of nesting
birds when in season, it goes without saying that you should never
leave litter of any sort this includes line which is one of the most
damaging things to the bird population.
Before you fish always take into account your proximity to
nesting birds, water voles or insect life that may have taken
residence on or close to your peg, if you find that this is the case
then do not disturb these creatures and find another spot if you are
able to do so, be aware of any overhanging branches or plant life in
and around the water as these often contain insects or water born
creatures that you cannot see, if you need to trim the weed growth
back to give you access to your peg then do it sympathetically, do
not take it upon yourself to trim any trees or make major
alterations to any of the S.P.A.C venues if you have a concern then
report it to a senior club member or the elected venue site manager.
When visiting waters that are leased to us on an annual or short
lease basis please check and adhere to all rules posted at the
fishery sites
Anglers must carry their club membership and current E A rod licence
at all times and produce them on demand !
Be a good and respectful angler, help others to learn and maintain
the countryside code for the benefit of all
Respect all wildlife and countryside users
If you have any questions concerning these rules or other club
business please contact the club we welcome input from all members
