The Safety First Campaign |
Within this site you will find all of the necessary information
about joining the club, locating the waters , learning about fish,
conservation and the protection of our countryside, learning about
specific techniques within angling, finding contact details for
other angling bodies and organisations, links to many angling and
tackle related sites, club rules , club clothing, reading up on
informative techniques and light hearted tales in the article
section, starting tips, safety by the waterside and much more, we
have tried to include content and functionality for all to enjoy.
Will all members be aware that there is a two rod limit on the
Flixborough pond ? This rule is really common sense on such a small
venue with only the choice of a few pegs available to the angler, if
there are other anglers fishing near you then please do not fan your
rods so that it stops them fishing their swims ?, Anglers should
also be aware that bivies and tents of any kind are not allowed on
our waters especially as we do not allow night fishing, There is
little point on erecting a bivy unless you are going to spend the
night at a venue ?
Please remember do not park your cars where they may cause an
obstruction ?.

Please
Note:
Your 2007 - 2008 permit runs out on the 15th June 2008, You must
renew your permit for the 2008 - 2009 season before this date or you
will not be able to fish on your old permit, anyone found fishing after
this date whilst in possession of a 2007 - 2008 permit will be asked
to leave the water immediately and may be reprimanded for their
actions, Anglers must also be aware that the Scunthorpe Police
Angling Club permit is only valid if in possession of a current E A
fishing licence, If you do not have a licence you are not a member
!.
Introduction to The Scunthorpe Police Angling Club
The Scunthorpe Police Angling Club is much like
any other angling club, The town of Scunthorpe is driven by it's
steelworks base and is situated in the North East, Lincolnshire, it
is well known for it's diverse range of angling with many canals,
Stillwater's, pits and rivers within easy striking distance giving
the anglers in these parts the chance to use many different types of
angling techniques throughout the season, we are keen
conservationists and believe whole heartedly in the preservation of
this great sport, the countryside and the creatures that live within
it working hand in hand with all governing bodies i.e. environment
agency, national rivers authority, RSPB guidelines, to ensure it's
safe keeping and longevity, we believe that all anglers should
follow in the protection of the countryside and our waterways not
only for the good of the sport but for the greater good of all, the
angler can quite often be the only person who sees pollution, acts
of cruelty or distress to animals as it happens, our sport has been
the subject of much criticism over the years, it is up to us to show
how caring and conscious we are of the countryside and all that
lives within it, you will find some useful numbers and contact
details on the conservation page so that you may look after the
countryside and it's inhabitants along with some helpful hints on
it's preservation and conservation, angling is a terrific sport that
has been enjoyed in this great country for centuries from the days
when angling was excepted to be one of life's great pastimes and
enjoyed by all from gentry to the commoner, it is one of the only
sports left that brings these people together as equals and has them
enjoying a days friendship as comrades, if angling is your passion
then join a club that is passionate about angling, the countryside
and all things piscatorial, The Scunthorpe Police Angling Club, we
hope to see you soon enjoying this great sport on one of our
fantastic waters. tight lines.
Litter Warning !
The Scunthorpe Police Angling Club will not tolerate litter of any
sort, we work hard to maintain and preserve all waters that we
provide, it is your responsibility to take litter home, do not
hide it in banking, do not hang bags of litter in trees or on gate
posts, do not hide your litter in long grass nor leave any litter in
your peg after fishing, you brought your litter with you so take it
home, do not spoil this great countryside of ours or endanger
wildlife just because you cant be bothered to take your litter home,
we feel that it is so important that we have imposed a rule for
those found littering which is your membership will be revoked
immediately without argument never to be returned, if you find
litter in your peg upon arrival then pick it up as a conscientious
club member and conservation minded angler it is your responsibility
to do so or you may be faced with the blame after fishing, you have
been warned,
Please adhere to all local fishery rules when visiting, carry your
club membership card at all times, please be aware that whilst
visiting these fisheries, fishing at any other water, or wearing the
club clothing you are an ambassador for the club and the rest of
it's members please be a kind, considerate angler and help others to
learn about safe angling practice and the conservation of the
countryside.

Caring for your Barbel

Release your Barbel carefully into the water

Hold the Barbel head first into the flow until it
begins to swim from your grasp with vigour, this can
take several minutes so be patient
Never attempt to keep Barbel in a keep net for long
periods !
Always peg your net upstream so that any fish can
enter your net and sit in the flow without the need
to turn around , Always try to release Barbel and
other big fish shortly after capture !
