Thornton Abbey Keepnets Rule

There is now a ban of keepnets at Thornton Abbey

(except during matches)

------------------------------------------------------------

Thornton Abbey Lake is approx 4 acres of water created on a farm behind the Thornton Abbey itself. This is a very picturesque venue with plenty of wildlife and no litter (please keep it that way). To reach the lake you enter via a farm field gate on the bend on College road, near Thornton Curtis. DN39 6TU. If you drive up to the Abbey bear left then right around the bends, you will see a sign saying 'Weak Bridge'. Immediately after crossing over the bridge is the farm gate on right. (See picture below). I have spoken to a few people that have actually gone into the Abbey grounds where the lady on gate duty has instructed them where to go!. I hope my latest details get you there easier? Thanks Stu-Art

The track is a bit soft and muddy during the winter so be careful and sensible, please don’t going chewing it all up as this will create more problems. We are not sure of what existing stock but we have introduced some small stock and will monitor the results as the reports come in. Early signs so far have been a few Carp cruising about, a few Tench have been caught and one Catfish but this will be removed if it gets too big.

At the current time there is one purpose built wheelchair peg, it is to be used ONLY by Wheelchair Anglers with a Blue Badge. PLEASE do not fish from this point as you will prevent wheelchair anglers fishing anywhere at Thornton Abbey.

The Pisces club is committed to providing good access for all anglers and encourage people of all abilities to enjoy our club.

Deepest Thanks Stu

Our fisheries officer, Simon Mattison had three hours at Thornton Abbey this afternoon (11th April) and had 47lb of Roach/Rudd trying to crack 50lb but ran out of bait. They averaged about 3/4lb with fish up to 1 3/4lb. He saw some carp cruising around as well.
