Welcome to our club

The Scunthorpe Police Angling Club is really a group of anglers that have joined together to celebrate the joys of being an angler, sharing a beautiful day in the countryside and being close to nature, we as a club believe that anglers can make a difference to the wellbeing of our countryside and to our native animals just by being there.

There has been much talk throughout the years of anglers being an ill informed, non caring bunch of hooligans that are only interested in sticking hooks into fish !, let me tell you that this picture often painted by people whom do not even frequent the countryside or venture far from suburbia and this is far from the case, I have been an angler for over 35 years and in that time I have just about seen it all the good and the bad, it is not difficult to make a concerted effort to safeguard our waterways and countryside so that all creatures that live within it can flourish and in my opinion most anglers do just that they are a caring , conservational and countryside loving bunch of individuals whom go about there sport with care and consideration for the wellbeing of all things, indeed I know of many anglers where the fishing is unimportant, only second to them spending their time in these beautiful surroundings and marvelling in the creatures that they may see throughout the day.

It is these anglers that care whole heartedly for the countryside and all that live within it, if asked they would put all of their effort into the preservation and continuity of the countryside.

We as a club try hard to preserve all things, cleaning up otherwise disused areas of the countryside and providing a safe place for all animals to thrive, we provide nest boxes for resident bats and birds along with the education of all anglers within the club on the correct way for them to help preserve this wonderful environment.

If you are a conscientious angler and care whole heartedly for the countryside and all of the animals that live within it then you have come to the right place.

To learn more about our environment and a selection of the animals that live within it please visit the conservation section and read through the animal information pages.

Anglers come together from all walks of life from the noble gent to the farm worker, this is what makes our great sport one of the worlds largest participating pastimes, whether you fish for monetary gain on the professional circuit, with a local club or just for fun most of us join in a common camaraderie, a great love of the countryside and all that lives within it as well as sharing skills and experiences with others especially if you are just starting out in this great apprenticeship called angling.

The most important thing that any one angler can learn is to be courteous, helpful, to appreciate and safeguard the countryside, our fish and waterways, it is with this attitude that we will preserve this great sport that has been the pastime and life blood from the very beginning of time, it is true that there may be those whom abuse and depreciate our countryside, fish and waterways but these people do not posses the right to call themselves anglers, it is these people whom give the rest of us caring conscientious anglers a very bad name, it may be hard at times to stop those that you see abusing a water, fish or other anglers but the only alternative is to do nothing !, personally I cannot, I will try to make a difference no matter how small, no matter what the outcome as I would be unable to enjoy nor participate as an angler if I did nothing, if you find litter at your peg pick it up, if you see someone abusing fish try to explain the error of their ways, if you see illegal activities report them to the relevant authorities, you do not have to be a six foot six leviathan to make a difference all that you will need is common sense and a good intention.

Welcome to The Scunthorpe Police Angling Club.
